Covers a lot more than just how to build Balanced Scorecards

After looking over some reviews and quickly glancing through a copy at a bookstore, I bought this book specifically to learn about PowerPivot and other Excel techniques that I could use to create efficient and effective management reporting (dashboards or otherwise). Considering myself an experience, intermediate level Excel user, I found the book more useful than I expected. Before getting into specifics about Excel for dashboards, the author, Ron Person, spends a great deal of time providing background on what makes a good scorecard, etc. -- a dashboard primer. He offers practical advice on the up-front work needed to create a good dashboard and potential pitfalls of not doing your homework.

When it comes to Excel techniques, he takes great pains to illustrate simple constructs that can be carried out in several generations of Excel and / or points out what would need to be done to accomplish the same or similar. I was surprised at how many "general" Excel techniques I picked-up, including learning about functions I never thought I would use, like REPT (repetition of text) that I assumed was some esoteric text function. Being exposed to the CAMERA functionality (a tool I had never heard of before) was a revelation -- I don't know why this feature of Excel hasn't been more heavily promoted.

Finally, he not only includes links to examples and test data that you can use to practice the techniques he covers, but he provides a generous compliment of links and references to other websites that either provide further information or complimentary material on such things as color palettes (choosing the right colors for dashboard elements).

I know I will be referring back to this book often for additional tips and tricks to improve my capabilities with Excel.

I do a great deal of Dashboard work n Excel and I highly recommend this book. The first several chapters cover the concepts of implementing Balanced Scorecards in a business which is great if that is your task. I'd not seen that subject treated else where to the same extent so this is a bonus to me. Moving on through the book there are numerous very useful and practical techniques to accomplish things in Excel 90% of the world is completely unaware of. If you realy want to improve your skills and WOW people, this book is a great knowledge enhancer for you. That and becoming familiar with several of the key websites for Excel Guru's will move you quickly toward being recognized for your skills in this arena. I purchased several copies of this book as gifts for some budding Excel guru's. I think you will be very pleased if your goal is to deepen your skills and presentation of data. Buy this book!

definitely must have.

I've started calisthenics with the old man, an x football player with more injuries than my fingers and toes. He's done with weights. Just reaching our sixties, the aches and pains can be annoying even w/o the injuries. Trust me on this one Convict Conditioning 1 and 2 will make you strong and it will reduce much of the old persons aches. For me the big thing is the amazing balance I now have.
Coach Wade is the way to go. What's cool to his approach is he has "helpers" to help you get to the harder stuff. Basically that means anyone between 8 and 80 can do this workout. That's amazing, really.

Convict Conditioning 2 is a great book. This book pick up where CC1 left off. In this book you'll learn how to strengthen the weak spots in your body (forearms, grip, calves and neck). You will also receive instructions on flexibility exercises and the vision of Paul Wade about nutrition.

To apply the CC's and CC2's routine in your life, you'll need patience to see the results, but you can sleep damn sure that, if you put the time and effort needed, you will have results that will last for your entire life.

If you can, please search for the Convict Conditioning FAQ and Convict Conditioning CHARTS (I found on Scribd). This 2 PDF files answered a loot of questions that I had about the implementation of the routine.

Also, I highly recommend that you buy the Convict Conditioning (the first book) BEFORE you buy this book.

Last advice, DO NOT "workout" to get fit. Workout with a specific goal in mind. Perform 1x5 One-Arm Handstand Push-up, is an excelent goal. ;)

"Coach" Paul Wade scores another home run

As with the first Convict Conditioning book, Paul Wade writes another book that is super easy to follow along (although the routines he writes about are anything BUT easy to do!). Each progression comes with clear directions and photos. Yes, the author repeats himself A LITTLE bit at times from what he wrote about in CC1, but definitely not to the extent that some other reviewers of this book have made it seem. It's the same philosophy he is advocating in CC2 as he did in CC1 (progressive body weight exercises requiring no special equipment), so of course there is going to be a bit of crossover at points. He also talks about diet and other fitness-related subjects in this volume, but even if you don't agree with his conclusions in these parts (good as they appear to be), you are guaranteed to find the calisthenic routines well worth your time. It's unclear WHO exactly Paul Wade is, but even if his "I was in prison where life was super tough" message is a nothing but a marketing scheme, the actual INFORMATION and ROUTINES in this book and in CC1 - what counts - is spot on. Keep writing, Coach ... I'll keep buying them!

Eye Opening

Of all the books that I read for my masters degree, this was the most interested. I'm sure that all teachers have experienced less than enthusiastic class at one time or another. According to Benson, this is due to a lack of control that students have over their learning process. If the teacher takes too much control, they lose a sense of ownership, and lose their motivation. However, not all students are prepared to take more responsibility for their education. What can be done? What is the research that has been done in this field? Benson outlines the the theories and research on learner autonomy. I recommend this for all teachers, not just English teachers. You might pick up a hint or two.

88+ Grammatical Errors

There is some really good information in this book, however it is obvious that English is not the authors first language. The grammatical errors and the spelling errors made this a very difficult read for me.

This would make a really good first draft but it is not good enough for a published book by any stretch of the imagination. To me the book just felt thrown together and not thoroughly written to convey the authors knowledge. Also, it is very obvious to me that the book was never proof read before it was published.

It is a great subject and I do believe the author has uncovered many truths, it just would be nice if it was written much more professionally.

A surprising little gem

I love to go on buying sprees when I want to research a topic at some depth and with a variety of perspectives - the latest topic being on Hypnosis and Mind Control. So I selected a number of titles, including Daniel Marques's 88 Secret Codes. At the kindle price, it wasn't much of a risk if it turned out to be a dud.

Let me also say, I can see that Dan Marques has sought an education in how to make money online. As have I. You can tell by the way he stuffs key words into all of his titles. But that's cool. The internet has levelled the playing field for all those who have a passion and a message.

What he lacks in polish, he makes up for with the said passion and enthusiasm. I applaud that he creates his works quickly and unselfconsciously makes them available. When you have a lot you want to share with people, and it's pushing through you to get into print, speed takes priority over finesse.

However, don't get the idea that his work is clumsy or rough. Sure, it's easy to tell that Dan is not a native English speaker, and most of the grammatical problems mentioned in other reviews of his other books, are actually quite minor.

I found the actual work to be quite poetic in its layout, with a generous amount of white space around the written words. I found this allowed me room for contemplation, which led me to insights of my own based along the lines of my own research. And he certainly didn't clutter the book with excess verbiage.

To sum up, Daniel's book stretched my thinking and awareness. More than I was expecting. Now, I wasn't sure whether I wanted to give it a 5 star rating because of the grammatical problems, and the formatting problems towards the end of the book. But, darn, yes I did love the book. It deserves to be read by those who enjoy finding diamonds in the rough.

I hope that in his later years, Daniel might take some of his earlier, exuberant works and transform them into deeper works.

This guys books are very documentary film worthy. There is something interesting about the material in this book. I have been flipping through it and it is worth reading. Worth a buck or two for sure.

Read it like you are listening to a person speaking a second language.

English is not the authors first language... But how well do I speak Spanish? Not very well, so I don't
judge.

Some Things you Can always count on.

I first encountered this book in edition 1 as a programer. We were on Edition 2 when I was a project Lead and everyone in my staff was issued a copy. On Edition 3 I was teaching a college course on JCL and had the text changed to this excellent reference. I am now a consultant and just finished a two day seminar to familiarize a group of analysts with their computing environment and the necessary JCL to get things done. I showed them edition 5 and recommended they get a copy. I believe that right now an order for about 12 copies of this tool is being approved. Very simply this continues to be the best overall resource on JCL in print. The additional information on TSO and SMS make it the single most powerful technical resource on the market. I have been in data processing for almost 23 years and have yet to encounter anything better.
