If you're a parent or student who is worried about paying for college, I feel your pain right now. I, too, have college on the brain - mainly because my oldest daughter is a senior in high school and she's presently filling out college applications.
She's a terrific student and is even vying to be a 2015 National Merit Scholarship winner. But it definitely hasn't escaped my husband and I that each of the schools on her list of college prospects has a sticker price between $55,000 and $65,000 per year.
With a son who is currently a freshman in high school, and another younger daughter now in third grade, I know we'll need help in tackling total college expenses for three kids. I also want our family to be smart about paying for college - and to avoid student loans if at all possible.
That's why I've been boning up on the fiscal aspects of lowering college costs. And I'm confident that what I've learned will not only help my family - but yours as well.
In fact, I'm super excited to announce that I've just finished two years' worth of research and writing about the financial side of higher education. The end result of my work is a new book series on controlling college costs and minimizing student loans.
