Good basic Windows 10 reference source...

The Windows 10 Bible is a good general purpose reference book for Windows 10 users. Nine broad categorical areas contain 40 chapters (plus four brief appendices) addressing both basic and advanced features of this operating system.

Overall, this guide assumes less, not more existing familiarity with predecessor versions of Windows, and some of its discussions of features may seem too basic for those who are already strong users of Windows 7, 8 and 8.1. And while I was surprised by its lack of discussion of some of Windows 10 newest features (especially the Cortana personal assistant feature) and privacy considerations, it will serve most users just fine as an comprehensive WIndows 10 reference.

I bought a total of four books on this subject and sent three back; this was the keeper and the others weren't close.

You aren't going to find a book tailored for your needs, the stage you are at as a novice or expert. There is no nifty publication that will take you from where you are, be it XP, Millennium, 7,8, 8.01 to this version. Nor will you find a reader, one that you read from cover to cover and come out expert. It all depends on what you know, and what you need to know, so that defines your need is a topical look up, a reference book. Of the four a couple had no meat on their bones, one seemed to barely actually know version 10, it seemed more line an 8.x book hastily retitled and slightly adapted. So, of the four I kept this, it's a reference book. You look up topics and read what you need to for the moment. It's not a text or class book.

Even having this book I often go to the on line helps using Google search as a first choice, but having this is a benefit.

..poor grammar. ..poor sentence construction. .
.cursory mention, if at all, of fundemental knowledge needed to navigate Win 10. ..will refer to something in the singular only to later put it into plural. ..very confusing. These guys really need a more thorough proof-reader. ..put the cart b4 the horse in some sections. As if this stuff isn't hard 'nuf to learn as is, they've mislabled the heading of at least one subsection. ..woulda prbly stayed with David Pogue had I to do it over again. Amazing! These people r supposed to be so smart, yet I'd have to guess they deliberately dumb themselves down when writing. ..sad. I say write as if u have a good, solid educational foundation. Be the standard-bearer. Put yourself above the norm. Bring others up to ur level, don't lower urself to their's. I would have given it 4 stars had this trio hired an older, retired English teacher--u know the one: The spry li'l ol' lady with her hair in a bun. ..game on all day, everyday. ..just might hit u across the knuckles with a ruler if u misbehave. .. prbly wouldn't actually do it, but u'd heard 'nuf stories u'd have to be crazy to chance it. ..scares even the principal--to have cleaned the book up prior to publishing. Still, though, these guys leave you hanging & not fully understanding quite a bit of the time. You're constantly going, "Say what?" in this book. Technologically these people are experts, but are challenged in writing clearly & concisely with a lack of ambiguity. They end a lot of paragraphs one sentence short leaving the reader unsure of what he/she just read. Jeesh! U'll need to do a lot of online research in addition to reading this book to "get" what the authors are attempting yet failing to explain.

The National Center on Education and the Economy, where Tucker and Codding are, respectively, president and v-p of programs, is a well-funded, well-connected nonprofit organization working for standards-based reform. Here, the authors combine their expertise to offer a cogent, comprehensive argument for internationally recognized standards of achievement. Tucker gives an economical component to their argument, while Codding, formerly a high school principal in California, presents interludes throughout the book highlighting her hands-on successes and failures with standards-based education. Tucker and Codding declare in their introduction that educators must "abandon. . .the idea that we are doing our job by sorting youngsters into winners and losers"; in fact, one of the main suggestions in the book is for "an internationally benchmarked certificate standard" that students could pass at any age they were capable. This isn't a theoretical statement of purpose, but something much more concrete: the authors offer details on new textbooks and new assignments, rebuilding accountability in the schools from the bottom up. It is up to their readers to act upon the authors' words. Although probably a bit dry for the average reader, educators and concerned Americans could well find this a blueprint for forging great change in our nation's school system.

This is an interesting book (for those in education). I do not agree with all of the author's points, but some were spot-on, and all were well-written and explained.

The Future is Now

This is a book about the future of American education - what it could be - what it had better be - if we intend to meet the demands of the kind of global/technological world in which we seem to be living . The authors make a poignant comparison between a typical American high school student who has no idea of his future in terms of professional or occupational aspirations and several young people in Europe and Asia who are preparing for their futures as an important part of their schooling. The contrasts between what we are doing and what some other countries are doing to prepare their youth for the future is stunning and provocative.
The authors demonstrate how a standards based education - one based on national industry skill standards - can provide the focus for many of our youth, regardless of whether they are going to be doctors or plumbers (we ALL go to work after our formal education).
Several convincing examples are given of schools who are successfully implementing a standards-based approach. Many excellent resourses for systemic change are included. A "must read" for anyone interested in improving our educational system.

About the Author
Gabriel Iqbal, is an award-winning internationally acclaimed Canadian lean management, leadership, behavioural skills and sustainability training specialist. A must for your bookshelf or kindle

I really enjoy this book; I bought the paperback version and have relish flicking through it as I relax on the couch. The content is well researched and varied and covers a period of human history that at present seems to be somewhat forgotten. Lots of graphics make it an easy read (my 7 year old enjoys going through it as well). I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to get up to speed with topic in a short space of time.

I'm a Baha'i. I defend Muhammad and the Quran because they are GOOD. People attack Islam and try to show its nothing but evil terrorists and never contributed anything to the world!! Now I have another tool to point out the beauty of Islamic civilisation and how it enriched our current day lives. To hate on Muslims just because of a few evil terrorists grieves my heart because Muslims are a WONDERFUL people with a BEAUTIFUL culture and language and have done MUCH for humanity. Please don't get caught up in the Muslim bashing it's really inhumane to blame an entire civilisation for the crimes of a few.

I expected this book to be words. I thought 'maybe there will be a picture or two'. FULL of pictures!! Very nice. This is AWESOME AGAIN thank you AMAZON!! I'm using Kindle on iPad and the pictures are terrific. For $8!! Let's celebrate the beauty in all races, cultures and faiths and the gifts they have given humanity.

This book corrects a lot of injustices and accurately shows how Islamic civilisation has and does contribute to our lives. We are all connected by our common humanity so let's look at the good in each and celebrate that and be united. Gabriel love to you. And thanks for making this available on Amazon.

A remarkable compilation of achievements by these eminent people spanning fields like Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Medicine and more.

The ultimate goal of the encyclopaedia is very admirable. The author's desire for a sustainable future, peace and understanding shines through the book.

Overall, it is a recommended if you are looking to gain a quick yet holistic introduction into the Scientific History of Islam, and how science as a whole can lead us to a better and peaceful future.

A TRUE SYNTHESIS

It is not unusual for teachers of various bodywork methods to incorporate something from other traditions. For instance, when I was taught the Eight Brocade Way (Ba Qua Jin), I was taught 9 postures. One of which was from Yoga. Later my teacher introduced some Western exercises to aid in working around physical problems.
Michael Reed Gach has achieved a synthesis from two paths, Acupressure(Chinese health system based on the flow of energy (Chi) through channels and meridians) and Yoga postures including the connected idea of breath energy (Prana).He achieved this synthesis while taking classes in both areas at the same time and finding that no one else had drawn the same parllels between the two systems or had interest in doing so.
He has specifically made these tapes to provide, through tone and pacing, instruction difficult to achieve only from reading. Each exercise topic is accessble separately e.g. breath, spinal stretching, chakras, channels, meridians. There is also a section, oraganized alphabetically, applying acu-yoga exercises to specific problems.
The exercises are presented as a combination of postures and pressue points within the framework of the meridian system. The addition of the 5 types of yoga breathing and sometimes tone(chant) enhances the power of the exercises.
The sucess of these methods can be attested to from the 20 yrs in-print of Micael Gach's book on acu-yoga. I personally can attest to the presentation on the tapes. The set I used had been missing the instruction book and I still able to follow the clear verbal program easily, only later refering to standard acupressure and yoga texts. I strongly recommend these tapes not only for their intrinsic value, but also for their providing a frame in which to incorporate other ideas.

Pastor Kyle went all the way in!

My friend told me that she started reading this book and got addicted by just reading the prologue. I didn't think twice to put in my order. I couldn't wait so I downloaded the Kindle version. I'm writing a book and was deciding to take out some things because I didn't want to seem too harsh. Once I began reading this book (the same night that I was going to change my book) Pastor Kyle gave me confirmation. Jesus isn't playing with us. He doesn't like for us to be lukewarm Christians. He sacrificed His life for us. We ought to do the same for Him. He wants our whole heart. God has opened up my eyes this year. I've really gained a more personal revelation of Him. Coming to realization of what He did for me, gives me all the reason to go hard for Him. Running to the altar for salvation and then, leaving unchanged is not His will for our lives. God requires for us to take up our crosses daily and follow after Him. The Holy Spirit convicted me through "not a fan." We all have our days and moments of fandom no matter how hard we go for our faith in Jesus Christ. There's always room for spiritual growth. We can never stop learning and being convicted. I've been thinking so hard after reading this book. Asking God to reveal to me areas that need improvement. My relationship with God has developed greatly and there's nothing more in this world that I cherish more than God. I'm so thankful for Jesus and all that He's done for me. I'm thankful for Pastor Kyle for obeying the Lord and writing this book no matter how harsh it seems. We need conviction not just motivation. Loving the humor too. I was cracking up LOL but then, I got serious thinking about all that Jesus did for us. Pastor K really has a great understanding of the Gospel. He broke down scriptures and stories and made them come alive. I love learning from other believers, especially those that have been in the faith walk longer than I. I'll be honest. Next to the bible, this is the best book I ever read. He kept it real and straightforward. We need to give our all. Jesus gave His LIFE! I'm Jennifer Quetant and I am NOT a fan.

Promotes introspection but does not get you to the finish line

Our church is reading through the whole book. I finished my reading in a week. I wholeheartedly support and reinforce the importance of living out the doctrine that you believe in (1 Tim. 4:16), and I believe the author did enough prodding and questioning to emphasize the importance of being a committed follower vs. a believer on the sidelines.

However, the problem lies in the fact that the entire book was merely that - prodding and questioning. It feels like an extended introduction to real Christianity. It supports the questions with Scriptures, and are valid. However, supposing one gets convicted and starts wanting to pursue the path of real discipleship, there is no clear guidance on how to go about it. The testimonial "Not a Fan" stories peppered throughout the book are for the most part, an emotional response and the start of an attempt to live out their renewed faith but not a life story of committed followership. It would have been better to highlight stories of faith lived out through the years and how the experience differed from mere church membership.

This is a good start to stir the waters (of a complacent faith), but I encourage the readers who get inspiration from this, to seek to dig deeper into the Word and the first century church, and start obeying and living according to the Scriptures. If you know of someone who is living our their faith, compare notes, and seek guidance. The attempt will not return empty. I don't know if I can recommend this book over a good Bible study - what I will do though is continue to live out my follower-ship and reach out to more people (including fans) who desire to live an active Christian life. I will do this by sharing my own personal testimony and my current daily life.

Over-rated and self-righteous

I had to stop reading. The author comes across as condescending and self-righteous, making jokes about people he's supposedly friends with and bragging about catching people who maturely and respectfully disagreed with him off-guard. It felt like he was trying way too hard to relate to teenagers while speaking down to them. I have no idea what his theology is; I couldn't find Christ anywhere. I'd heard wonderful things about this book, and I'm glad some people find it useful. I have no idea how they're doing it though.

About the Author
Rogier Noldus is Senior Specialist, Intelligent Networks, at Ericsson Telecommunications, Netherlands.� Within Ericsson, he is responsible for the development and implementation of the CAMEL technology.� Rogier has played a key role in the development of the CAMEL standard in ETSI and 3GPP.� He has chaired various conferences on CAMEL, has been speaker at various other international conferences, and represents Ericsson at the ETSI and 3GPP standardization organizations.

disappointed

This book appears to completely omit the possibility of direct gsmSCF to gsmSRF communication, This is especially serious when this is the first gsmSRF scenario discussed and diagrammed by other authors and the definitive 3GPP TS 03.78 & 3G TS 29.078 standards. This interface, present in CAMEL from phase 2, is being used in the new and interesting CAMEL services such as CRBT. This is a basic and serious omission and has undermined my faith in the rest of the book.

Absolute must-read for CAMEL'ers

By far the best book i have come across which attempts to provide a comprehensive understanding of CAMEL's origins, CAMEL's present and future roles. Author's excellent narrative skills coupled with easy-to-follow logical flow makes this a personal favourite. Its a must-have for folks who want to learn CAMEL networks or those who want to refresh their knowledge about CAMEL networks or those who want to augment gaps in their understanding of CAMEL networks. The book, in my humble opinion, has both, depth and breadth... a very rare quality in itself...

Reading CAMEL from the specs has always been a nightmare for me with very basic understanding of IN, but after going through the book all my fundas have become clear and now I am able to relate everything from the Specs. This book is the only book I could find on this topic and author has very clearly explained the topic starting from scratch.

Crown and Coleman, journalists with Crain's Chicago Business, report how Schwinn, America's premier manufacturer of bicycles, developed, flourished, coasted, and finally flew from its seat headfirst into bankruptcy in 1992. The company's heyday was in the 1950s, when its lovingly crafted, chrome-bedecked monsters were a kid's dream. But the company ignored a shift that occurred in the 1970s--kids of the '50s, by then young adults, had taken to cycling, a sport that demanded lighter frames. When management finally realized the trend, they discovered that Schwinn's underfinanced, antiquated Chicago plant could not produce the welding on the new, thinner tube frames, forcing them to outsource the work to Taiwan's Giant Bicycles. Giant was then tiny, but--thanks to Schwinn--it soon fulfilled the promise of its name to become the biggest bicycle manufacturer in the world. A salutary tale of "no hands" management.

This involving saga of the rise and fall of an American icon, the Schwinn Bicycle Company, combines a colorful social history of bicycling with a cautionary tale on the many forces that can bring down a family-run enterprise. Founded in 1895 in Chicago by headstrong German immigrant Ignaz Schwinn, the firm saw its market eclipsed by the automobile age, until Schwinn's son Frank led the bicycle industry out of the Depression with diverse styles and a youth-oriented image. Business boomed in the 1950s, but imported bikes splintered the market, and third- and fourth-generation Schwinns, clinging to old formulas, fell behind. The closing of the Chicago factory in 1983, a Pyrrhic victory over the union, left Schwinn essentially an importer. Parts shortages and lack of investment in new equipment were further burdens. Crown and Coleman, reporter and deputy managing editor, respectively, at Crain's Chicago Business, maintain that Ed Schwinn Jr., who became president in 1979, soured key relationships with dealers, employees and suppliers through his arrogance, managerial blunders and a series of joint ventures that sapped the company's limited resources. After filing for bankruptcy in 1992, Schwinn Bicycle was bought by Chicago investors Sam Zell and David Schulte, who moved the streamlined enterprise to Boulder, Colo. Photos. Author tour.

Schwinn, whose name was synonymous with the American bicycle, was for many decades an innovative and highly successful company. Since its founding in 1895 by German immigrant Ignaz Schwinn and later ownership by his descendants, the company produced such sought-after bicycles as the Black Phantom, Sting Ray, Varsity, and Excelsior. In 1992, Schwinn filed for bankruptcy and was subsequently taken over by an outsider. Interesting business history

This is a fascinating cautionary tale about what happens to a business -- no matter how famous -- when it loses focus on its customers and competitors. For anyone who grew up riding a Schwinn, it's hard to avoid rooting for the company to succeed, even though one knows (in advance) that in the end the company failed. It's a little like watching a horror movie where you want to yell out to the screen, "watch out," in the vain hope the actors in the movie can here you -- I kept wanting the management of Schwinn to wake up and save the company, even though you know they won't.

Highly recommended -- too bad this is out of print. Worth buying a used copy to read.

It's a Bike Book, It's a Business Book. Outstanding.

Never take a job at a privately owned company with the grandkids running the place.

If you are a grandkid who owns a company, got to Hawaii and live on the beach and hire a real professional manager for your company.

The book has a lot of Schwinn history. It tells us what went right and what didn't. The Schwinn at Walmart may say Schwinn, but it isn't a real Schwinn, it's a low bid bike sold by a company that owns several bike names. Like the title, "No Hands" all of the chapters have similar titles, makes it fun. Also serious facts and why the great company wasn't great. Having ridden Schwinns of that era and bought one and still have a Japanese bike of that era, I can't figure out why it took so long for them to fail. They just got out of touch with their customers, yet were set up to be in tune with the every changing market.

Read this book years ago and missed it so much i had to have my own copy. Great book that makes you almost smell the hard wood floors of the old Chicago Schwinn factory. Its that good.
