About the Author
Wassim Jabi is Senior Lecturer at the Welsh School of Architecture, Cardiff University. He has a PhD in Architecture from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Dr. Jabi is a past-president of the Association for Computer-Aided Design In Architecture (ACADIA) and a member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Architectural Computing (IJAC). He has published numerous papers in the area of computer-supported collaborative design, computer-aided visualization, parametric design and digital fabrication.

Great book to get your teeth into Parametric Design

Why I like this book. I have been looking around for a book that would "show" how Parametric Design can be applied to architecture. This book deserves 5 stars for the following reasons:
Professor Jabi has given us a book which has :
Case Studies for for each type of Parametric Pattern.
The Case Studies are followed by a tutorial
With a lengthy explanation of the what the code does.
The book is divide into three parts:
Part 1: Explains what Algorithmic Thinking is about.
Part 2: Dives into Parametric Patterns:
Controller
Force Field
Repetition
Tiling
Recursion
Subdivision
packing
Weaving
Branching
Part 3, gives an overview on what to expect in the future.
I can see this book working well for a short course or part of an elective at University Level.
The software requirements:
Autodesk 3DMax - Maxscript
Processing
Processing is an open-source programing language which is free to use
whereas Maxscript requires 3d Studio Max, which is not a cheap problem to acquire, unless you are a student in which case you get get a student copy from Autodesk.
I bought this book three weeks ago, it is still open on my desk as i work through each of the tutorials.

Best Book on the Topic of Parametric Design!

I just got my copy of the book and I am very excited. I have spent the last two hours reading and looking at this book. I can not put it down! It covers the topics in a very comprehensive way. And the graphics are beautiful! This is the book that we all have been waiting for in this very important design subject. Thanks for all the hard work.

This book is probably the most spot on for starting your journey towards leaning parametric design. Unlike most books this book tells you fully how to go about with detailed descriptions and code.
