"THIS IS THE SECOND EDITION OF THIS EYE PATHOLOGY ATLAS from Ralph Eagle. To the author’s credit, he has made an excellent atlas even better. The text is now in the standard portrait format, which makes it more user friendly. The excellence of the first edition, primarily designed as an atlas and “basic text,” was marred by the deficient quality of some of the photographs. This deficiency has been addressed in the new edition, and the 259 new photographs are of superb quality. The clinical or gross photographs are typically included alongside photomicrographs of the same pathological entity. In the first edition, the text was totally separate from and preceded the figures, which were presented 4 to a page. The organization of each chapter has now been modified so that the figures are embedded within the text in a format more typical of textbooks.

The second edition of Eye Pathology: An Atlas and Text is invaluable as a study tool for ophthalmic pathology and well worth the purchase price. The review questions alone make this an exceptionally useful resource for ophthalmology residents. The book is not as comprehensive as some ophthalmic pathology textbooks, but it is not meant to be. It is, however, one of the best ophthalmic pathology study resources available and should be a part of any ophthalmologist’s library. No ophthalmology resident should be without it."

I bought several of these because we needed them to fill in for a reading series that our school district adopted. Unfortunately, a lot of the stories are boring. Wish we could afford the newer edition! The books were in good condition, but the students don't like them very much.

Suzy Spencer first came to my attention about seven years ago, and I was immediately impressed by the dynamic foreword motion of her narratives coupled with her ability to set the scene of events without belaboring every physical nuance from outdoor environment to details of window shades -- she knows how to capture your attention, and most importantly, tell the story. Her BREAKING POINT goes beyond the superficial coverage inherent in the limited word count of newspaper stories, or the soundbite analysis of infotainment disguised as news. Spencer gets into the heart and soul of every story she investigates, and brings, dare I say it, a "spiritual sensitivity" to the complexities of human existence. Mental illnesses are medical condition whether the result of in utero virus, injury or heredity. Sadly, recent research found that more Americans believe that evil acts are caused by invisible demons from hell than believe in medical diagnosis and treatment for mental health conditions. Spencer has a perceptive eye, a kind heart, and, if the atheists amongst us will pardon the phrase,God given talent. The cover of this book has a dynamic picture of the famous ancient Greek temple, the Parthenon, in Athens. The contents of this book are divided into two parts. Part one of the book focuses mostly on the history of ancient Greece from around 1600 B.C. in the late Bronze Age to about 100 B.C. when the Romans conquered the Greek civilization. Part two concentrates on Greek culture and society. Some of ancient Greece's most famous sites are reviewed as well as other aspects of Greek culture such as art, architecture, myths, everyday life, entertainment, and housing. A nice aspect of the book is the inclusion of two pages solely devoted to the world of Greek women, discussing their daily life, their roles in society, and influential Greek women. There are many beautiful photographs and illustrations (all with informative captions), a few diagrams, a table of dates, and numerous maps. And because Greece was divided into many small, independently ruled communities or city-states, the abundant use of maps is very important and helpful to readers. The atlas contains a lot of excellent information, but as a whole, the information did not flow from one topic to the next. It is best suited as a resource for studying special topics of interest rather than a book to read from cover to cover. It is also more appropriate for more advanced readers.

Great college textbook

I got this as required reading for a college class. This is the second book from this publisher that I have had to use, and I have loved them both. There are no graphics, but the text is written in a simple manner that is easy to read and easy to understand.
