About the Author
Howard M. Reid, professor in the Psychology Department at SUNY Buffalo State, received his doctorate in experimental psychology from the University of Maine and then completed postdoctoral study in behavior genetics at The Jackson Laboratory in Maine. Dr. Reid is an active researcher with broad interests, including published work in operant analysis of behavior and animal models of epilepsy, as well as the associations between ADHD and laterality. He has also directed numerous undergraduate research projects which have been presented at local, regional, and national conferences. Dr. Reid is the recipient of a number of prestigious awards, including the SUNY Chancellor’s Awards in Teaching and Faculty Service and the Buffalo State President’s Award for Excellence as an Undergraduate Research Mentor. Dr. Reid is currently testing a scale constructed to measure student appreciation of the liberal arts, is working with his statistics TAs in research projects, and chairs the college senate.

Between Two Worlds Introduction
More than ever, people are coming forward and sharing their experiences with after-death communication. Through television and film, the question of whether life exists beyond death has captivated our popular culture—not because it’s a new question, but because people are opening their minds to new answers. When I first got the call that my television show, Hollywood Medium with Tyler Henry, had been green-lighted, I promised to make it my purpose to explore whatever answers came my way and to share them honestly with the world. That’s the mission I’m still on, and my own questions multiply by the day. With all the different opinions about mediumship and psychic phenomena in circulation, I aim to provide unique, easy-to-understand explanations, obtained through my firsthand experiences.

I’m a firm believer that people should be able to decide for themselves what resonates with them. I’ll share what I’ve learned through communicating with the other side, and I encourage you to take from it what resonates with you. When it comes to the hereafter—things aren’t black or white. Taking into account the gray areas in between, I’ll explain some of the more consistent dynamics I’ve observed over the course of more than a thousand readings. There are many exceptions to the rules, but that’s the beauty of the other side. It’s far more complex and nuanced than anything we as humans can comprehend. There are some big questions to which I may never have the answers. However, every small answer helps contribute to our understanding of a much larger question: what happens when we die?

I speak to dead people. More interestingly, the dead speak back to me—primarily through sending mental impressions and sensations from the other side. All of what I do revolves around validation—that is, getting the confirmation from the sitter that the information I’m receiving is accurate and could only be known by the communicating spirit. Upon validation, my client gets the knowledge that their loved one’s soul continues on, is at peace, and is able to communicate anything that had been left unsaid or that was realized during the transitioning process.

If there’s anything I’ve learned through my work, it’s that in life, diversity is a gift. I know many different kinds of people will be drawn to this book, from all different backgrounds, belief systems, and degrees of familiarity with the subject matter. In the following pages, I’ll share with you my spiritual beliefs. However, I think it’s more important for you to understand the process of exactly what happens when a spirit comes through. For that reason, I’ll focus on the details of the experiences, so you can draw your own conclusions about how it all fits into the big picture of your beliefs. Individual differences aside, I think we can agree that we all benefit from the healing of others and the idea that love is eternal. The goal of my work, and the work of many other authentic mediums, is to reinforce these universal truths.

I understand that my ability is a gift and not something for which I can take any credit. I’m just a conduit for information to come through and reach those who are open to hearing it—something we all have a natural ability to do, to varying degrees. Practice breeds consistency, and the more we develop and trust in our gut feelings, the more significantly and accurately our intuition can help us. Even after doing countless readings, I still have to remind myself daily to “get out of my own way” and allow myself to be a clear vessel through which messages can flow.

When I first started learning about my abilities, I spent endless hours at bookstores and libraries, reading multiple books a day, and searching the Internet for resources and information about what made me so different. Being the only one experiencing an entirely other world was alienating in the truest sense. I felt like I had one foot in this world and one in the next. I didn’t understand, nor did I feel understood by, either side. As a kid, learning the ropes to our earthly dimension was challenging enough, let alone throwing another one into the mix. I was somewhere in between, a messenger in the middle of two realms: a medium.

Throughout my life, I’ve come to understand the world in two ways. In one sense, I’m like any other twenty-year-old adjusting to adulthood, learning to live on my own (and use a dishwasher for the first time, admittedly). Yet in a very different sense, the part of me that most people see is Tyler Henry the medium—the Macaulay Culkin look-alike who gets in touch with celebrities’ dead loved ones on television. Though most people can’t relate to what it’s like to get visual, sensorial, and mental impressions from people who’ve passed away, everyone is capable of understanding the impact those messages have on the loved ones who need it most. Whether it’s a reference to pink fuzzy dice from your aunt Edna, or an inside joke shared with a beloved grandmother, these are the messages I strive to deliver—no matter how random they may seem to me, personally.

When my clients come for a reading, I view my connecting process as a bit of a puzzle to solve. I receive impressions from one or more spirits, and together, the querent and I establish how the message is relevant and where it connects. Readings are 50 percent receiving the information and 50 percent untangling it. Throughout the past few years of doing sessions, I’ve seen countless forms of healing result from validating messages. Whether it’s closure from a loved one, much-needed proof of a hunch, or a release of guilt, I’ve been able to see what makes the most life-changing differences in each after-death communication. With each contact I make, I aim to bring a loved one through so clearly that it’s undoubtable to my client that I’m connecting. This validation comes from describing personality traits, quirks, family traditions, inside references, and sometimes even physical mannerisms. It’s the small, but specific, details that communicate the essence of who someone is in life, and the same can be true for those on the other side.

Every day brings new experiences and new stories shared by souls that are able to understand what truly mattered in their lives. Their messages teach us what we should value in our own. Above all, I’ve learned that transitioning to the other side gives perspective. Ironically enough, it’s the dead who have the most to teach us about life.

In this book, I hope to provide the reader with a narrative unlike any other—one that’s honest, down-to-earth, and uses terms everyone can understand. Besides answering some frequently asked questions, I want to delve into all areas of my human experience—as well as those of the individuals, living and dead, whose paths I’ve crossed.

Great Insight into the mysterious world of Tyler Henry

Tyler Henry is the millennial pop icon of evidential mediumship in the US. As such, his long awaited book was something I was looking forward to for awhile now. As an avid reader on the topic of mediumship, I was desperately curious how such a young man (19 at the onset of his show) developed his mediumship to such an amazing level of skill. The book does not disappoint. It delves into his formative years describing how he came to be the Hollywood Medium. I think the fact that he is so young, he has the advantage of being able to recall with quite detail the trials and tribulations of his early development. I enjoy how candid he is (No, he didn’t just wake up with this level of skill). It took a lot of practice, bravery and dedication. It definitely gives more insight into his reading style and how he is able to communicate what he does.The book also addresses some basic topics such as reincarnation, soul mates, soul contracts etc. I feel given the audience he is likely to reach, the book addresses what is needed without going into too much overwhelming detail. It also has a nice Q&A section that answers some frequently asked questions. I feel that through this book and his work in the media, Tyler Henry is doing a fantastic job of setting an example of what integral evidential mediumship should look like. If you are interested in how Tyler Henry came to be the Hollywood Medium, this book will not disappoint.

I am fascinated by Tyler Henry, so his book was a must-read for me. Very easy to read, and a very quick read. He explains a lot about growing up and harnessing his abilities, answers a lot of questions people often ask him, and even tells about some of his most memorable experiences/readings. Loved it!

Forty-five-year-old English professor Nathan Qells is very good at making people feel important. What he’s not very good at is sticking around afterward. He’s a nice guy; he just doesn’t feel things the way other people do. So even after all the time he’s spent taking care of Michael, the kid across the hall, he doesn’t realize that Michael’s mob muscle uncle and guardian, Andreo Fiore, has slowly been falling in love with him. Dreo has bigger problems than getting Nate to see him as a potential partner. He’s raising his nephew, trying to leave his unsavory job, and starting his own business, a process made infinitely more difficult when a series of hits takes out some key underworld players. Still, Dreo is determined to build a life he can be proud of―a life with Nate as a cornerstone. A life that is starting to look like exactly what Nate has been seeking. Unfortunately for Dreo―and for Nate―the last hits were just part of a major reorganization, and Dreo’s obvious love for Nate has made him a target too.

I Wish It Was Longer

Although I really liked this book I'm only giving it three stars because the two main characters don't hook up till half way into the book...and while the beginning of the book is OK and learning about the characters is great before they have a relationship and have sex (which is my favorite part because i like the way Mary Calmes write) I was left disappointed when it ended because it felt like the relationship just got started. So while it was a good book if your a fan of Mary Calmes you'll like this new one....it was too short for me....but maybe there will be a second book!!!!

Nate Is On a Quest to Find Love- Satisfying Read

I saw the blurb on this book and just had to read it. And having read it? Very satisfying!

It started with a nice introduction about the cover art. The painting that is the cover was what inspired the author to create the whole story. I just love learning how a book is born.

This particular story is an m/m romance, but it is one of the unique ones in that genre (at least that is my humble opinion). I have to read through many book blurbs in this genre to find the heartwarming ones since I am partial to slow build relationships and I like the inclusion of family and daily circumstances that make the characters and their stories more real to me. Not to say, I can't enjoy any other pace and plot style, but this is my favorite type. I guess what I just said can be construed as a promise or a warning depending on what YOU enjoy. Don't get me wrong in thinking that Acrobat was boring because it was not. There were some definitely exciting and passionate moments, but these were also sprinkled with the main character, Nate, doing a lot of thinking and re-accessing his life.

The story is about a man in his mid-forties who is a college professor. He is well-liked and has a good life with plenty of family and friends, but he is missing something. He thought he found that something with his former partner, but his former partner is a police officer who was not willing to come out of the closet because of his career. Nate has an interesting family dynamic in that he is a gay man with an ex-wife who has been and still is his best friend and a loving, accepting grown up son. Nate and his ex, Melissa, only got together because one night's mistake when they were teens made a baby. Now, Melissa is hap'ly remarried and nagging Nate to find his true love.

Things start to happen in Nate's sedate life as he is involved in taking care of the lonely teen boy, Michael who reminds him of his absent son, living across the hall with his much-absent, formidable and enigmatic, Uncle Dreo. At the college, Nate is forced to deal with faculty jealousy and politicking and the sudden return of a former student, Sean, has the potential to give his love life a boost.
But its not until the Chicago mafia gets involved that his life really takes a turn.

As I mentioned before, the plot starts out slowly really delving into Nate's character before it goes to some more active scenes. There are several mini plots that all tie-in to Nate's life and the story switches back and forth between them though not in a confusing way.

The descriptive background offered by different aspects of Chicago: the neighborhood and apartment building, the college, the restaurants and entertaining and the Italian traditional family stuff with Michael and Dreo was fascinating and just added to the richness of the plot.

The characters were great. As I got to meet each of them, I liked the way each one had a backstory and were real instead of just background for Nate. I really like how Dreo was written. There was a little disappointment because I wanted more of him. He was larger than life. For most of the book, his thoughts are unknown and we just have those well described facial expressions and body language to give us hints. Unfortunately for Nate, we as the readers catch on before he does so I spent some of my time muttering to Nate (yes, I called him names even though I like him- very bad of me I know). Michael was a fun character when he was in the scenes and I loved his interactions with Nate.

So for those who like a slow build romance with lots of backstory, this is definitely the book for you.

Great story!

I'm a huge fan of Mary Calmes and Acrobat would have to rank in the top 5 of my favorites from her. Ann87's review is spot on and would have to agree that Calmes changed up her formula of story telling a bit in Acrobat.

The first half of the book doesn't provide much direction but the readers are immersed with her usual lovable characters as they are developed. While there was romance throughout the book, the true love interest didn't occur until much later and even then, it was subtle realization that two neighbors who had a mutual goal in raising a teenaged boy (Dreo as the adoptive parent and Nate as the boy's friend/mentor) meshed so well together. One of my pet peeves with some of her previous books (and the genre in general) is instant attraction followed by multiple scenes of sex which disrupt the story flow. (I understand a lot of that is added at the behest of publishers.) Acrobat had the right mix that blended in well.

Beautiful book

This is a beautiful book with many color plates and great writing about the fashions of the court of Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette - don't know how people got around in those days - but let's face it - they probably didn't do much - although one print shows Marie-Antoinette on a horse - for the hunt! Surprised they could get her on the horse! The copy I got was at a reduced price - which was great - I've been fascinated about this period of history - and this book is very helpful.

One of the most fascinating works about eighteenth century French fashion I have read. This book is beautifully illustrated and written. Often historical works can be dry, but I found this analyses of the fashion of the era, thoroughly enjoyable.

KJV single-column perfection

I've always had an appreciation for a good bible and not until lately has format been at the top of my list in priority. Since I was little I've had a fascination about the word of God, but knew very little about it or how to read it. After coming from little to no reading of the bible to reading just the King James Bible to expanding that to ESV, NIV and NASB; I've realized one thing in the process - the formatting is key to understanding context clearly. I always felt when I read a KJV that the text seemed so interrupted and choppy. Then I decided to pick up another version (my favorite is the ESV) and see how they read. I was amazed at the way they read and how the text flowed. The paragraph setting made it much easier to comprehend. I was frustrated because every KJV had verse by verse formatting and given the somewhat archaic words in the KJV the text was made that much harder to understand. I love the King James Bible and the rich heritage that comes with it. I know that it doesn't use the most up to date manuscripts and some passages can be a little bit confusing, but the language at which the text is presented has a wonderful ring to it. Not to mention that our former brothers gave their lives so that we could read the bible in English. If you ever get a chance to do a little digging into how the KJV was made please do so. It'll give you a new appreciation for the King James Bible.

As for the New Cambridge Paragraph Bible, I think it is executed very well. Like I said above, the perfect size and formatting is something I've been waiting for. I was ecstatic to receive my ESV clarion a few weeks ago and was planning to get the KJV clarion as well, but saw this rendition by David Norton and that they were coming out with a personal size (perfect for me!). I cannot tell you how great this bible is. I think I may like it as much as my ESV clarion (if you own a clarion you know that's a big statement). I never thought I would like a hardcover this much. You really do feel like you are reading a book and the size feels right in your hands. Exactly the way I want to experience the King James Bible. The size is actually perfect, not too big or too small. I would say the text block is very similar to the clarion, yet, the print experiences slightly less ghosting than the clarion (to be honest - pretty close to the same). If you want to save money and experience the KJV like never before, I would get one of these today! For me I couldn't justify spending another $120 on a bible so I thought I was settling for a KJ version format that was similar to the clarion. I can tell you that this is not settling ... this may end of being one of my go to bibles for daily reading! Seriously, pick one of these bibles up ... you will experience the beauty of the KJV like never before!

Great publication!

Firstly, it came as described, so good on you, shipper.
Secondly, it's a great edition. I love the hardback volume more than the paperback, personally, and the style of its format is great. I love the King James translation, and the way David Norton has formatted this is perfect. The paragraphs help in reading for extended periods (I never liked verse by verse) and the Psalms and Proverbs are formatted as poetry. Beautiful. I just love it.

Love it! Great hardcover KJV

Love it! Great hardcover to stand-up on your book shelf. The pages feel great, not thin, not too thick. It's a great font. I'm in-love with single column settings now, and this one is perfect.

I really like how the footnotes are set to the side of the text, and to the inside (and there are no section headings) so that the body of the text is nicely placed away from the"gutter" or seam/middle of the book. Of course, if this is a Bible you want to take notes in, that's a problem because it would be impossible to write much of anything right there in the gutter. But for me, the KJV is a cross-reference reader for me with an ESV as my main reader and note-taking Bible.

There are no cross-references, and I prefer that. I don't like a bunch of references distracting my reading and taking-up space on the page.

I like a soft cover Bible as my main reader, to hold in my hand, but for an alternate translation Bible that will sit on my shelf, I wanted a hardback. So this Bible checks all the boxes of what I was looking for; KJV, single column, no cross references, hard cover, sewn binding. It's a very nice Bible and I just might get it custom rebound with a nice leather covered hard cover. Lord willing, this will be the KJV I go to on my shelf for the rest of my life.
