It compares nicely to many of the wildlife and outdoor guides leading the observer step by step to a definite identification of rumen ciliate protozoa to a species level. This manual is comprehensive, detailed and easy to use. Dr. Dehority's attention to detail and his ability to focus on important features of the ciliates show the perfect union of an artist and scientist. His Procedures section at the end of the book provide the student with all the "recipes" needed to make some discoveries of their own.

Great book, easy to read, but does not cover everything for the exam.

I would seriously recommend this book to anyone who wants to pass the 70-284 exam. Unlike the other book by Microsoft Publishing, this book is very easy too read, and has lots of illustrations and good practice questions. The Microsoft book is way too focused on very small details, like menu items and shell commands, and it does not provide a comprehensive look at the subject as a whole. I spent a week reading the first 3 chapters with all the boring stuff about coexistence with Exchange 5.5 and all the theory, then closed the book put it back on the shelf for good. Besides, the lab practices on the MS book don't follow any specific order, so you'll end up re-imaging and setting up your Virtual Machines a dozen times.

This book, on the other hand, allows you to look at the Exchange infrastructure from above so you can grasp the whole idea of messaging systems, the role that Exchange plays in this market, and its installation and maintenance in the physical world. However, it is definitely not enough for the exam. Reading this book, watching TestOut videos, and using my previous experience with Exchange, I passed the exam with the score of 840/1000 (the minimum is 700), but unlike the other Microsoft exams, I had to use all the 3 hours given, and review all questions 3 times before I clicked Finish. Later when I checked the Microsoft book, I found out that most of the exam questions are covered.

So if you're studying alone and you want to be totally confident before giving the exam, this is what I recommend you to do: 1. Set up 2 VMs on your PC/Mac, or if you have more than one computer, create a small home network to play around with; 2. Read the Sybex book thoroughly and do all the tests, experiment with your network as you read; 3. Scan through the Microsoft book and review all the material that the Sybex book has missed, do the exercises; 4. If you can get hold of a video course, spend a day or two going through the videos as well; 5. Register for the exam and spend another 2 or 3 days doing the MeasureUp tests that are included on the CD inside the Microsoft book.

A good second source

I read these book, worked every exercise and even supplemented this with training from the [...] and it wasn't enough to get to exam passing level. I ended up using the Microsoft Press book which was much more accutate to the actual exam, and provided more real world exercises that I run into now.

WOW! MIND BLOWN

This is a standalone book and is a spinoff from the Addicted series. If you haven't read the series, no worries. You don't need to have read it in order to read this one. However, I do urge you to read it in order to get the full effect of the awesome-ness that is Kiss the Sky.

WOW WOW WOW. Mind: Blown.

I had some pretty big expectations for this book and let me tell you, Krista & Becca Ritchie did not disappoint! I have to admit, I think this is the best that they have written so far. And that's saying a lot for me since I am completely obsessed with the Addicted series! To say that I think I might like the spinoff better...well...that's just blasphemy.

Great points about this book:

1. It's a standalone (as I've mentioned before)
2. No insta-love
3. Solid relationship (and I mean solid as a rock)
4. No cliffhangers at the end
5. No cheating
6. No love triangle
7. Lots of laughs (as well as tears)

Bad points:
.... Well.... honestly, I really have none to list.

Here, I thought the story couldn't get any better than Lily and Lo's (from the Addicted series). I love being proved wrong :)

Rose + Connor = perfection. Damn these two are a powerhouse couple!

“They belong together the way books fit in a library.”

In the Addicted series, you don't get to see much of Rose and Connor. In Addicted to You (Addicted #1), Rose came off as a stuck up, spoiled, cold-hearted, bitch (in my opinion).

"Rose frightens children, pets, and even grown males with her icy eyes and chilling glares."

Connor also came off as stuck up but at least he didn't seem cold-hearted. I thought this was a good (and funny) quote of Connor in Addicted to You:

"I sincerely think that Connor is asexual. Like a sponge. He probably wouldn't even notice if you [Lily] hit on him."

Rose and Connor together were described as "two asexual people bonding together–a once in a lifetime happening." I mean, they were basically viewed by the other characters as robots.

But through the series, we see more and more of Rose and Connor. We come to realize that Rose is quite possibly THE BEST sister anyone could have. She will go to the ends of the earth (even sacrifice her own life) for her sisters. In Kiss the Sky, we get to see inside Rose's head and we find out just how caring and loving she is, despite the tough exterior that she puts on.

Then, there's Connor. To me, it was thrilling to see Connor change from the beginning to the end. I loved being inside his head because he was such an enigma in the Addicted series. In Kiss the Sky, we're given a glimpse of his childhood to show how he came to be the man that he is. And as the story progresses, we witness how he changes. How being with Rose turns some of his views askew and makes him question some of his major beliefs. I was pleasantly surprised by Connor. I'm a Ryke fan myself, but I fell in love with Connor in this book (I fell even more in love with Ryke and Lo too, but that's beside the point). I just couldn't help it!

For all the Lily & Loren lovers, there is plenty of them in this book. Much more so than I expected; in fact, it made me miss them a lot, especially when Lily was being her goofy self. There was one chapter when I was just laughing non-stop. Loved the banter between all 6 main characters. And just as in the Addicted series, anytime there's a scene that involves the 3 guys, you can pretty much expect some laughs.

I am also looking forward to reading Daisy and Ryke's story in Hothouse Flower (to be released Mar 2014)! Yet another spinoff from the Addicted series. I'm really interested in and can't wait to see what's going to happen between these two!!

I found a lot of parts in this book just ridiculously funny! Even Rose was funny! Who knew Rose could be funny?! But there were also a couple of parts where I was just a blubbering mess. Krista & Becca definitely know how to pull on my heartstrings. The ending had my chest swelling. My heart was literally beating out of my chest! My head is still spinning.

Everyone is in for a treat! So, get ready to laugh your socks off and cry your eyes out! Kiss the Sky solidifies my desire to read every single book by Krista & Becca Ritchie! Love them to no end!!

"People hope to touch the sky.
I dream of kissing it."

I f***ing loved this book. I want to climb up some tall building and scream from the rooftops that I F***ING LOVED THIS BOOK!! And yes, this is my very first, well-deserved, 6 star rating of the year!

I literally finished Kiss the Sky the day after I got the ARC (which I may or may not have squealed over). It was non-stop reading for me after that-the book is quite long, but every page zips by so fast and I never wanted it to end. I'm so not the type to slow down a savor a book-I pretty much devoured Kiss the Sky! And holy hell, what a wild ride this book is. I already loved Connor and Rose from Lily and Lo's books, but Krista and Becca Ritchie managed to make me fall even more in love with them, if that's even possible! Seriously, I can't even think of Connor without swooning and squealing over him. He's perfection. And Rose? I have a total girl crush on her. These two characters could not be more perfect for each other, and I loved loved loved reading their story.

Rose and Connor are supporting characters in the Addicted series, but they finally get to take the spotlight in Kiss the Sky. I've never read a series where the secondary characters are so engrossing to read about, but Connor and Rose are just so... intense. They take up so much space in the Addicted series, if that makes sense. Even though they're supporting characters, they have so much presence in the books, and now that they're the main characters, everything about them intensifies. Rose and Connor are extraordinary people. It's not just their brains, but to be honest, they're really the smartest people I've ever read about. They're intelligence is off the charts, and I have to admit, intelligence is such a turn-on for me. So, Connor? Yeah, I was swooning and sighing madly.

It's really their hearts that endeared them the most to me. With Rose, we easily see how much she cares for and loves her little sisters. She is the backbone for her sisters, the one who holds up everyone and everything together. Yes, she's bitchy, but she's strong and confident and smart and assertive and ambitious. She's the top-dog, a total alpha-female, and I loved her!

"I'd choose to die if it meant my sisters could live. You think it's stupid, but sometimes love is worth every foolish choice you make."

And I loved seeing the more vulnerable sides to Rose, the sides that she only shows to Connor, or at least that only Connor notices. The new reality show and her clothing line are taking a toll on Rose. At the beginning of the book, Rose hires some TV production people to film a reality TV show of her and her family and friends to boost her clothing line, which took a hit after Lily's sex addiction was exposed to the public. And the man in charge of the reality show, Scott, is a slime-ball who wants to be the one to take Rose's virginity. Ugh, I hated Scott. HATED him. Rose and Connor do too, since from day one, Scott makes life hell for the both of them. Scott is a horrible person, and the authors have created an incredible antagonist in him.

Connor knows that Scott wants Rose, and... Connor won't let Scott take Rose away from him. Rose is his, completely and undeniably, just as he is hers. I loved reading more in depth about the relationship between Connor and Rose. From Lily and Lo's POVs, we got that Rose and Connor are perfect matches and are meant for each other, but we don't see the love between them, not really. But Kiss the Sky illuminates that love, a love that is full of fire and passion and need. Connor and Rose go head to head with each other all the time. I loved reading the hilarious banter between them, and most of all, I loved how they support and just get each other. They bring out not only the best, but the most out of each other.

"He makes me believe that anything is possible. I don't think I'll ever find someone quite like Connor Cobalt."

Rose has been holding on to her V-card, and in Kiss the Sky, we see the growth and development of her newfound sexuality. And let me just say, Rose and Connor (AHHH CONNOR!!

Foundation of music

Scales are not fun but form the foundation of all music understanding. This is an excellent book providing many exercises in all the foundational principles of music. Regardless of what instrument played, all good musicians benefit from a strong understanding and mastery of the content of this book.

Excellent Scales Book!

The Alfred Complete Book Of Scales, Chords, Arpeggios and Cadences is an extraordinarily well put together format. They spend the first dozen or so pages explaining the theory behind how scales and chords are put together. They do indicate that they are best learned by practice, but the theory at the beginning of the book is an excellent resource.
They formatted the scales extraordinarily well. Starting around page 16 you start the key of C Major, with every major and minor scale following that as well as two pages of Chromatic scales at the end, a page on harmonizing the scales, a page with blocked scales and accelerating scales followed by Expanding scales, and scales in double thirds, double sixths and octaves. After that they have Scales in the Grand Form, followed by broken triads, triad chains and cadences. The back of the book finally has a scale fingering chart.
Back to the format of the regular scales though. I'll illustrate what they do with C Major, which they do for the rest of the scales. All of C Major is listed on the two pages you have open when you turn there. First there are parallel motion in octaves, followed by contrary motion starting on the same note, parallel motion in thirds or tenths, parallel motion in sixths. On the following page (which you're already opened to) they have the C Major Triads: Root Position along with the primary chords, the C Major Cadences, C Major Arpeggios, and Dominant Seventh Arpeggios. This is an excellent resource for any student pursuing understanding in piano.
I have been playing piano for several years and never have grasped such a great understanding of the instrument until purchasing this book. I find that songs come so much more easily now just as long as I practice the scales before playing. The brain is a wonderful thing, but you do need to give it some fundamentals to work with, and this book of scales are the answer.
Well worth the cost, I would've been willing to pay more for this book than the $9 I payed for it. Highly recommended.

Must have for any budding pianist

Alfred's Books have always been some of the best learning materials available. This book is no different. The book has all the scales every student should master as well as some informative information regarding music fundamentals. The book is of high quality with bright big text and is very easy on the eyes. They used quality paper and ink for this book. The paper stock is thick and sturdy so it can stand up to some abuse. The one thing I wish was included was a spiral binding. Once you get into these types of books, it becomes difficult to lay flat on the piano desk without the pages closing. Minor gripe, you can take it to Fedex office to get it binded for around $6 if it becomes too bothersome to you.

A good reference book for those looking to reconnect with Yule and the Winter Solstice in general.

I would like to thank Llewellyn Worldwide, Ltd. for an ARC of this book in exchange for an open and honest review.

This is a great reference book for any Pagan seeking to reconnect with the celebration of Yule and the Winter Solstice. Although I already celebrate the Solstice in question, I still got a lot of inspiration from ‘Yule’ as it not only gave me some new ideas to incorporate into our own celebrations; it encouraged me to keep doing things “my way”. So many books of faith and celebrations seem to dictate that their opinion is the ONLY way it should be done. ‘Yule’ encourages you to find your own footing on the path, giving helpful pointers along the way but allowing you to seek the balance right for you and your area of the faith.

It did feel a little odd reading this book on a very hot spring day, with Yule months behind me and Ostara just last weekend… but that’s the fault of the reader, not the book. ;-)

I will say this book is more focussed on Yule in the Northern Hemisphere as a lot of the rituals and festive ideas are closely linked to Christmas time. As a Pagan of the Southern Hemisphere, I celebrate the Winter Solstice/ Yule near the end of June. And so I did get some good ideas from this book, but not everything could be carried over as smoothly. This is not meant as a negative comment as you should write to what suits you and from what you are accustomed to. If the author comes from the Northern Hemisphere, they should focus the knowledge they’re sharing on those experiences. Again, different footsteps on the same path.

The only other minor piece of constructive criticism I would give is I was a little disappointed in the food recipes. I’m a whole food, organic food, make everything from scratch person and so find recipes that are for a packet of this and a tin of that… they didn’t sit well with me. But, again, different footsteps on the same path. We need to find the balance that is true to ourselves and so if pre-made foods work for the author, then it’s how it should be in her book.

The ARC did contain a couple of typos and misspelt words too, but I’m sure they were picked up in the final edit and I never mark a book down on such things as I’m good for a typo or two myself!

Would I recommend this book to others? Yes I would. Just because it has a strong connection to Yule in the Northern Hemisphere, this book is still a very good reference book for anyone wanting to get back in touch with the Winter Solstice. Even those also located in the Southern Hemisphere like myself. It gives us a broader look at the world and our Pagan faiths within it.

Would I buy this book for myself? I might. I do have some books that follow the Wheel that are more Southern Hemisphere orientated that work for me… but I did enjoy reading ‘Yule’ and so I won’t say no just yet. If I find myself thinking back over it and wanting to remember some of its advice next June… perhaps I will still get it. It has also made me keen to read the other books in the Wheel from this publisher as I feel they could contain the same fair guidance and inspiration.

In summary: A well written book of reference for anyone wanting to get back in touch with the celebration of Yule and the Winter Solstice. And, although aimed more for those in the Northern Hemisphere, it is still a good reference books for Southern Hemisphere Pagans too. It’s a good nudge in the right direction, rather than a strict statement of how it should be. A perfect book to embrace into your faith, and to help you find more balance in how to live.

I totally love this little series of books and Yule

I totally love this little series of books and Yule, the latest of the eight major pagan festivals, is no exception. Does it dig into the deep, dark, interesting past of Yule in great detail? Nope, but it wasn't meant to. It is meant to be a overview of the festival with a bit of history, lots of cool ideas to help celebrate the time of year and the festival itself. Fun recipes that can be adapted to suit the persons personal needs or at least spark some ideas. If you need a quick ritual idea, craft idea, want a logical correspondence to evoke the mood and feeling of the season, this book is for you.
It isn't trying to be anything it isn't. It is a great series for an intro to the sabbats.

About the Author
Piotr Staszkiewcz is a Polish economist interested in auditing and financial markets. He is a public auditor registered at KIBR (Polish Audit Association). He earned his Ph.D. in macroeconomics from Wrocław Economic University in 2003. From 2003 to 2005 he served as a member of the Management Board of Low Silesia Chamber of Auditors. In 2009 he was appointed to the Polish Auditor Examination Commission by the Polish Ministry of Finance. He is also a fellow of the Polish Economic Association.

Lucia Staszkiewicz is a Slovak economist interested in human capital management, tax and reporting. She is an official state Polish-Slovak interpreter registered at Bratislava Court. In 2000 she was admitted to membership of Association of Chartered and Certified Auditors (UK audit association). She earned her Ph. D. in human capital management form Bratislava Comenius University in 2010. For number of years Lucia was president of Slovak Visual-Handicapped Tourist Club. She is the honorary blood donor.

This book addresses the interpretation and application of human rights norms by International Criminal Tribunals (ICTs). Such Tribunals are widely heralded as human rights defenders. At the same time, however, they employ activities that necessary entail the risk of human rights violations: they conduct criminal investigations, arrest and detain individuals, and put them on trial. This book investigates this flip-side of the ICTs’ relationship with international human rights law, and focuses on the ICTs’ own interpretation and application of human rights norms.
First, the book addresses whether and how ICTs are bound by human rights law, since unlike states, they do not sign or ratify human rights conventions. Second, the book provides an in-depth analysis of the way in which ICTs interpret and apply human rights norms, compared to the way in which these norms are interpreted in a traditional state-context. Relying on the unique circumstances in which they operate, ICTs have often deviated from generally accepted interpretations of human rights. The author critically examines this so-called contextual approach and seeks to recommend ways in which ICTs can improve their interpretative practice by giving due regard to the context in which they operate, while still providing adequate human rights protection.�
Addressing the ICTs’ possible leeway in terms of contextualization, this book contributes to the broader debates about adherence to human rights norms in international law.
